Scratched front-element :(
by Nick Smith 18th March 2007I've been using UV protective filters on all my camera lenses for the past 3 years, with never a scratch or problem. So after reading various discussions on photography websites here about possible loss in image quality if you use a filter, I tried shooting without a filter...
And of course the very first trip abroad I shoot without a filter, and the front element of the lens gets scratched 
Talk about Sod's law! I'll be keeping the filters on in future. YMMV
